Kraken to Wind Down NFT Marketplace, What’s Next?

Kraken | Crypto Futures | Bitcoin derivatives

Kraken has announced the closure of its NFT marketplace as part of a strategic shift to focus on new initiatives. The marketplace will enter a withdrawal-only phase starting November 27, 2024, and will permanently cease operations on February 27, 2025.

The company explained that redirecting resources toward the development of undisclosed “new products and services” necessitated the decision. Users are advised to transfer their NFTs to self-custodial wallets or Kraken Wallets before the February deadline. Kraken’s support team is available to assist with the transition.

Nonfungible tokens (NFTs) are unique blockchain assets that confirm ownership of digital or physical items. While NFTs surged in popularity during the crypto boom, the market has struggled to regain momentum following the 2022 downturn.

Kraken’s NFT marketplace, launched in beta in November 2022, was designed to capitalize on the growing interest in the space. However, evolving market conditions and the company’s shifting priorities have led to the decision to discontinue the service.
