Tether, the company behind the world’s largest stablecoin, USDT, is making a bold move into artificial intelligence.
On May 5, CEO Paolo Ardoino announced that the firm is preparing to launch a fully open-source AI runtime designed to run on any device, no API keys required, and no central point of failure.
Ardoino emphasized Tether’s ambition to become a major player in the AI space, describing technology as an essential part of our future.
In a tweet, he explained the AI runtime will be adaptable, scalable, and tightly integrated with Tether’s Wallet Development Kit (WDK), enabling seamless payments in USDT and Bitcoin (BTC).
In a follow-up post, Ardoino said Tether’s AI vision is inspired by science fiction legend Isaac Asimov. His goal is for AI to become “part of the very fabric of the universe” over the coming decades.
This isn’t Tether’s first step into AI. The company previously launched Tether Data, an analytics-focused platform, and has been expanding its presence in the Bitcoin ecosystem, not just through BTC accumulation, but also by investing heavily in mining infrastructure.
Tether’s foray into AI signals a broader tech ambition that goes far beyond stablecoins.
