Vitalik Buterin Pushes for Simpler, More Resilient Ethereum

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin is urging a return to simplicity in the network’s design, inspired by Bitcoin’s straightforward architecture.

In a blog post on May 3, Buterin highlighted the need to streamline Ethereum while preserving its advanced functionality. He believes simplifying the protocol will make it more accessible, reduce technical complexity, and enhance long-term resilience and security.

Key proposals include overhauling the consensus model with a ‘three-slot finality’ system, simplifying the Ethereum Virtual Machine, and unifying standards across protocol layers.

Though these changes may carry short-term challenges, Buterin sees them as necessary for Ethereum’s long-term success. His call for reform comes as the network struggles to regain market share, with ETH trading well below its all-time high.

Still, analysts remain hopeful that Ethereum’s evolving roadmap could mark a turning point in 2025.
