Ripple Invests $5 Million in APAC Blockchain Innovation

Ripple Labs has committed $5 million to expand its University Blockchain Research Initiative (UBRI) across six Asia-Pacific countries, bringing its total investment in the region to over $11 million. The funding will support academic research and student innovation focused on blockchain and the XRP Ledger.

Ripple is strengthening partnerships in South Korea, Japan, and Singapore while launching new collaborations in Taiwan and Australia. Projects include asset tokenization research, AI network development, blockchain curriculum creation, and legal studies. The expansion aligns with Ripple’s broader regional initiatives, such as the XRPL Japan and Korea Fund and investment in Asia’s first institutional XRP fund. The UBRI Connect event will spotlight Asia’s growing role in global blockchain development.

Ripple’s University Blockchain Research Initiative (UBRI) is strengthening its presence in Australia through a renewed partnership with the Australian National University (ANU) and a new collaboration with Victoria University, bringing its total investment in the country’s universities to $1.3 million.

At ANU, the renewed funding will support advanced legal coursework focused on blockchain technology, virtual assets, and digital payments. It will also fund faculty research related to Evernode, a proposed Layer 2 smart contract platform for the XRP Ledger. Ripple noted that ANU will continue operating its XRPL validator and publishing student research in the ANU Journal of Law and Technology.
