Solana Foundation Grapples with Reactions Over Priorities and Spending

Solana

The Solana Foundation has faced a backlash over a controversial ad campaign, prompting its Vice President of Technology, Matt Sorg, to issue a clarification.

Sorg explained that the ad was primarily outsourced to external teams and did not represent the broader views of the Solana community. Despite his defense, the video drew widespread criticism for blurring the line between blockchain innovation and political discourse.

Amid the scenario, a public debate sparked within the Solana community after Allmight founder Kevin Ricoy published an open letter urging the Solana Foundation to announce a shutdown date.

Ricoy accused the foundation of becoming “elitist” and prioritizing costly, high-profile events over supporting smaller, grassroots builders. However, key figures like Kash Dhanda of Jupiter and Akshay BD of the Solana Foundation defended the group, arguing that high-profile events are crucial for attracting institutional capital and talent that benefits the entire ecosystem.

While the community is divided on the foundation’s future, both sides agree that a balance between centralized coordination and grassroots innovation is essential for Solana to continue thriving.
