Bitcoin Whale Transfers $52 Million in BTC After 13 Years of Inactivity

A Bitcoin wallet that had been dormant for 13 years has become active, moving over 80 BTC (worth approximately $8.9 million) from its total holdings of 479 BTC (valued at over $52 million). This movement is part of a recent trend of large, long-dormant Bitcoin wallets, or “whales,” showing activity.

Recent examples include a whale moving 2,000 BTC to an exchange to convert it to Ethereum, another moving 670 BTC to open leveraged positions, and a mystery whale transferring 80,000 BTC after 14 years, with the transaction facilitated by institutional firm Galaxy Digital.

While such large moves can spark concerns of market sell-offs, some analysts believe that the distribution of these massive holdings can actually reduce volatility by spreading the coins among a larger base of investors.

The recent whale activity comes as Bitcoin’s price has been consolidating after reaching an all-time high last month. With Bitcoin’s price holding steady, traders look to the Fed’s September 16–17 meeting for clues on future rate policy.
