Ripple’s Chief Technology Officer, David Schwartz, has announced he will step down from his role by the end of the year, marking the end of an era for one of the company’s most influential figures.
Schwartz, a key architect behind the XRP Ledger, the blockchain powering Ripple’s ecosystem shared the news on X, saying he looks forward to spending more time with his family and returning to long-paused hobbies. “But be warned, I’m not going away from the XRP community. You haven’t seen the last of me,” he added.
While stepping away from daily operations, Schwartz will remain closely connected to Ripple by joining its board of directors and occasionally advising the team.
With more than 13 years at Ripple, including seven as CTO and time as chief cryptographer, Schwartz helped steer the company through pivotal milestones, such as the launch of its stablecoin in late 2024.
Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse praised Schwartz as a “true OG in crypto,” highlighting his deep influence on the company’s technology and direction. “I’m glad you won’t be far as you join the Ripple board, continuing to share your wisdom on what we’re building,” Garlinghouse said.
Though leaving his executive post, Schwartz remains committed to the XRP ecosystem, ensuring his legacy and expertise will continue shaping Ripple’s future.
