AMC Launches DOGE & SHIB Payment Options One Week Earlier than Planned

DOGE

American movie theater chain AMC Theatres has incorporated meme tokens Dogecoin (DOGE) and Shiba Inu (SHIB) as payment methods. This development, coming one week ahead of schedule, now sees customers make online payments for movie tickets using the crypto duo. Furthermore, DOGE and SHIB also join an already existing list of digital currencies currently accepted by AMC for movie tickets. These include Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), and Litecoin (LTC).

AMC CEO Adam Aron first announced the company’s expanded crypto payment options in a Thursday tweet which read:

“Your replies just might break the internet, given your clear enthusiasm and interest in cryptocurrency. As promised, the http://amctheatres.com web site now accepts Dogecoin and Shiba Inu for online payments! A special shout out to @BitPay for helping us to make this happen.”

As mentioned in the tweet, Aron credited crypto payment facilitator BitPay for making the payment scheme possible.

AMC had originally intended for its latest crypto scheme to go live on the company’s website on March 19th. In addition, the movie theater giant also had the same service slated for an April 16th launch on its mobile app.

The successful implementation of DOGE and SHIB now sees AMC delve deeper into the crypto space. Furthermore, there is also talk that AMC may be considering launching its own native token dubbed AMC coin soon.
