Baidu Looks to Distribute 20,000 NFTs to Grow the Market

NFT

Chinese multinational technology company Baidu reportedly plans to distribute 20,000 non-fungible tokens (NFTs) from March 10th, 2022. Baidu is doing this to induce growth in the NFT market in China.

The digital assets will consist of a “talking tom cat” production of 8,888 distinctive NFTs, to be distributed between March 10th and March 12th. In addition, Baidu is also set to release 3,160 avatars on March 16th, 2022. This will commemorate the sixteenth birthday of “Ali,” the famous Fox cartoon personality.

Baidu has already taken a step towards its NFT distribution initiative. Towards the end of February, the internet technology giant delivered several NFTs which displayed Olympic themes.

However, Baidu is not alone in its quest to promote the NFT culture in the Chinese marketplace. Last year, Tencent, another Chinese platform known for its strides in the tech and entertainment space, inaugurated its own NFT marketplace. Back in August 2021, Tencent had already advertised the inauguration via the provision of 300 NFTs dubbed vinyl records. These vinyl records were based on the famous talk show developed by Tencent, called “Shisanyao.”

Furthermore, in the same month, Alibaba, a direct rival to Tencent and China’s version of Amazon, also made similar moves. The e-commerce giant inaugurated a blockchain-powered asset trade and digital copyright via an auction.
