Graphic designer and digital artist Mike Winklemann, also known as Beeple, has sold an NFT for more than $69 million. Beeple made history by selling the “Everydays: The First 5000 Days” collection.
Minted on the 16th February, the NFT was auctioned from the 25th of February till the 11th of March. The auction initially priced the NFT at $100. The outstanding closing price confirms Beeple as one of the world’s creators with the most expensive works.
Apart from Beeple, Jeff Koons and David Hockney are the other living artists that have created more expensive works. However, Beeple’s latest was the first digital art to be on Christie’s auction house.
Cointelegraph revealed in an earlier report that 5,000 unique images make up “Everydays.” The report added that the images were produced on a daily basis for about 14 years. In addition, the themes of the images focus on the fear and obsession of society on technology, the desire for and resentment of wealth, and the political history of the US.
Lately, NFTs have become a trend while making impressive sales. In October last year, Christie’s sold an NFT for $131,250. At the time, a contemporary artist at Christie’s Noah Davis said:
“Acquiring Beeple’s work is a unique opportunity to own an entry in the blockchain itself created by one of the world’s leading digital artists.”
