Binance CEO Warns WhatsApp Users of Major Security Threat

Binance

Binance CEO Richard Teng has issued a new warning about a surge in WhatsApp phishing scams targeting crypto users. In his latest security post on X, Teng revealed that scammers are impersonating Binance staff on WhatsApp to trick users into sharing sensitive information or sending funds.

According to Binance, these fraudsters join public crypto groups or message users privately, claiming to offer investment opportunities or resolve fake account issues. Teng stressed that Binance never contacts users via WhatsApp about funds or investments.

The exchange reiterated that official communication only comes through Binance’s verified X account, Telegram, email, or customer support channels. Users can confirm identities using the Binance Verify tool before engaging with anyone claiming to represent the company.

Binance urged users to avoid clicking links from WhatsApp messages and never share 2FA codes, seed phrases, passwords, or private keys.

Phishing scams remain one of the biggest threats in crypto, as attackers increasingly exploit platforms like WhatsApp to impersonate trusted brands. Teng concluded by reminding users that vigilance is the strongest defense against online fraud.
