Bitcoin Network Node Count Breaks New Record With 99% Running Bitcoin Core

BTC

Data from Bitcoin (BTC) network statistics dashboard, Bitnodes.io, showed that Bitcoin nodes set a new all-time high record on July 5 when the number of accessible nodes hit 13,374. The previous record high was in January when the count went up to 11,613. The Bitnode data also shows that the network node count grew by 2,739 nodes in the previous year. The growth further proves the theory of Bitcoin’s decentralization.

In January, roughly a quarter of all reachable nodes were available on the private network, Tor. However, recent data shows that nearly half of the nodes now run on Tor. Using Tor to run clients like Bitcoin Cor, gives room for an extra layer of privacy as connecting nodes have complicated IP addresses.

Data from another tracking website, Coin.Dance, shows that the Bitcoin nodes count hit a new record of 12,825. According to the data, 98.77% of the nodes run the Bitcoin Core software, while unpopular implementations like Bitcoin Knots and Bitcore make up the rest.

Similar to the rise in the network node count is the development going on in the Lightning Network (LN) ecosystem. In less than six months, the ecosystem’s capacity has increased by over 70%. A report from Lightning Network statistics tracker, Bitcoin Visuals, proves that the LN nodes count is above 12,800, a new record for the network. This development occurred after the network added 100 BTC and exceeded 1,800 BTC in less than one week.
