BNB Smart Chain No Longer Supported by OpenSea

The NFT marketplace OpenSea has decided to discontinue support for one of its blockchains. OpenSea will no longer facilitate NFTs built on BNB Smart Chain (BSC). The rationale behind this move is attributed to the necessity of channeling resources toward the most promising initiatives.

OpenSea stated on social media that the company assessed that the benefits of continuing to support BSC were outweighed by the broader impact.

Effective immediately, users will be unable to create new listings for BSC NFTs or initiate new offers related to them. Nevertheless, OpenSea clarified that individuals will retain the ability to view, discover, and transfer BSC NFTs on the platform. The decision is anticipated to optimize resource allocation, enabling OpenSea to stay in step with the rapid advancements within its ecosystem.

As a result of this change, OpenSea’s list of supported blockchains is now narrowed down to 10: Arbitrum, Avalanche, BNB Chain, Base, Ethereum, Klaytn, Optimism, Polygon, Solana and Zora.

BNB Smart Chain, previously recognized as Binance Smart Chain, functions as a Layer 1 blockchain stemming from the renowned cryptocurrency exchange Binance.

This move by OpenSea underscores the company’s strategic approach to aligning its efforts with blockchain networks that exhibit considerable potential and fostering innovation within its ecosystem.
