Do Kwon to Be Extradited to US or South Korea After Montenegro Court’s Approval

Hacker | Crypto Theft | prison sentence

Montenegro’s court has approved the extradition of Do Kwon, the founder of the Terra ecosystem, to either South Korea or the United States.

Both countries are seeking Kwon’s extradition after his arrest in March for attempting to travel to Dubai with forged documents.

Kwon and his associate, Han Chang-Joon, were sentenced to four months in jail for forgery charges. Despite Kwon’s unsuccessful appeal, the High Court in Podgorica revealed that he agreed to be deported to South Korea under an expedited procedure.

The final decision lies with Montenegro’s Justice Minister and will be determined after Kwon completes his sentence.

The extradition order raises questions about who will gain custody of Kwon, who is facing charges in both South Korea and the US, including securities fraud, wire fraud, commodities fraud, and conspiracy charges.

Justice Minister Marko Kovac stated that factors such as the severity of the offense, location, timing and the order of extradition requests will influence the decision on Kwon’s destination.
