Elon Musk’s First Day As “Chief Twit” Receives Reactions on Twitter

The biggest crypto influencers on Twitter are over the moon that the richest man in the world, who is also a big fan of Dogecoin, is now in charge of the platform. Musk, who now calls himself Twitter’s “Chief Twit,” has made it clear what he has in mind for the social media platform.

Additionally, Elon Musk has gained a lot of support from the cryptocurrency community thanks to his support for free speech and opposition to permanently banning users.

Neeraj Agrawal, the director of communications for Coin Center, compared Musk’s takeover to Batman villain Gane’s popular “Gotham is Yours” speech in “The Dark Knight Rises,” which he delivered while releasing prisoners from their cells.

Michael Saylor, the executive chairman of MicroStrategy and a fervent supporter of Bitcoin, has also tweeted some upbeat messages about the situation. He posted a cartoon of Musk releasing the recognizable bird for Twitter from its cage on Thursday.

Saylor had previously informed Musk that protecting Twitter users from “the establishment above and bots below” was necessary to ensure free speech and citizen journalism.

Musk has also promised to address the problem of spam bots, which are particularly pervasive on cryptocurrency Twitter. Though there is currently no hard evidence to support it, some users have already asserted that since Musk took over, spam on hashtags related to cryptocurrency has significantly decreased.

Binance, a major player in the cryptocurrency sector, has already committed to assisting in the removal of Twitter bots after supporting Musk’s proposed $500 million Twitter buyout.

Before confirming his offer this year, Musk held extensive discussions with industry heavyweights about how to find blockchain-based and decentralized solutions for Twitter, including with people like Jack Dorsey and FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried. Custodia Bank CEO Caitlin Long believes that given the industry’s close involvement, Musk’s new position primarily represents an advancement in payment technology.

“Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter is about payments,” she tweeted on Friday, responding to Binance and Twitter’s partnership. “Banks—get ready to be disintermediated by far better payment tech.”

Outside of the crypto Twitter community, many groups oppose the new leadership and Elon Musk’s liberal views on free speech on the site. Billy Markus, the creator of Dogecoin, thinks Musk’s detractors are being overly dramatic.

“Why are people worried that Elon is gonna make Twitter worse, anyway? This place was already a hellish cesspool,” he tweeted on Friday.
