The former First Lady of the United States, Melania Trump, announced the launch of a non-fungible token (NFT) platform. According to reports, conservative social networking service Parler, will be powering the initiative.
Trump intends for the platform to feature unique NFTs, with a portion of the generated funds going towards charity. In addition, the former First Lady will be looking to provide assistance for children aging out of foster care programs. Part of this entails empowering them with computer science and technology skills and resources to achieve economic independence and empowerment. Trump herself weighed in on the new development saying:
“I am proud to announce my new NFT endeavor, which embodies my passion for the arts, and will support my ongoing commitment to children through my Be Best initiative. Through this new technology-based platform, we will provide children computer science skills, including programming and software development, to thrive after they age out of the foster community.”
The announcement supposedly identified the Solana blockchain and crypto fintech startup MoonPay as providing supporting services to Trump’s initiative. However, both companies deny such an agreement ever took place, with a Solana rep saying:
“I wanted to inform you, to avoid any confusion, that her choice to use the Solana blockchain was completely organic and this project is not part of any Solana-led initiative.”
It may seem that both Solana and MoonPay are trying to dissociate themselves from the Trump name or brand. This could be as a result of former President Donald Trump’s past comments on digital currencies.
