Indian Authorities Unmask Crypto Scam, Government Officials Suffer Losses

Indian Crypto Deposits

Indian authorities are aggressively pursuing a massive cryptocurrency scam that has affected thousands, including government employees and police officers in Himachal Pradesh, with approximately USD 676 million involved.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) is actively working to uncover the fraud, identifying ten key suspects believed to have operated the scam from Dubai. The lack of regulatory approval from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) underscores the risks associated with such schemes.

The involvement of government officials and law enforcement personnel makes this case notable. Many government employees were enticed, leading some to resign from their jobs for quick gains.

Over 300 complaints have been received, with around USD 67 million unlikely to be recoverable, highlighting the devastating impact.

The government is committed to bringing those responsible to justice, underscoring the global challenge of combating cryptocurrency-related fraud.

The scam operated under ‘Korvio Coin’ (KRO), promising high returns and ensnaring various victims, including government employees and land compensation recipients.
