Newegg, a leading American online electronics shop, says it will start accepting meme coin Shiba Inu (SHIB) from early December. The major electronics retailer made this announcement as part of its holiday promotional campaign. Before now, Newegg had been accepting Bitcoin (BTC) and then Dogecoin (DOGE) – becoming one of the foremost American online retailers to do so.
As part of an announcement on Twitter, Newegg said:
“Hey #ShibArmy, how we looking on America’s largest digital out-of-home billboard? @ShytoshiKusama #Shib. We’ll be officially accepting @Shibtoken in by early December via @BitPay”
Newegg is partnering with crypto payments service provider BitPay to facilitate this new payment option. BitPay was also the online store enlisted by Newegg to facilitate its DOGE payments back in April of this year.
Newegg’s director of brand marketing Andrew Choi expressed confidence in BitPay’s proficiency in handling his company’s crypto payments. In Choi’s own words:
“Through our partnership with BitPay, we have the ability to move quickly and lead the market with flexible cryptocurrency payment options. To that end, we’re excited to offer SHIB as a payment option on Newegg.com.”
Crypto adoption as a payment option is fast becoming more commonplace across several industries and business formats. Only last month, American movie theater chain giant AMC announced that it was finally accepting four major cryptos as a payment option, including Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), and Litecoin (LTC).
