Madonna Acquires Bored Ape NFT, Takes to Social Media with The Announcement

NFT

Pop icon Madonna has joined a long list of celebrities to venture into the metaverse by purchasing a Bored Ape NFT worth $560K. Taking to Instagram to proudly show off her latest digital asset, Madonna said:

“I finally entered the MetaVerse…My very own Ape! What should I name her? Thanks @moonpay. We all need protection from Evil Eye.”

Madonna made the acquisition via fintech firm MoonPay. Furthermore, according to NFT marketplace OpenSea’s records, the Bored Ape NFT also costs 180 ETH in crypto terms. The current purchase price is far from how much the NFT cost the last time it changed hands at 46.5 ETH back in August 2021. In fiat currency terms, that worked out to be only $155,000.

Madonna’s new Bored Ape NFT, dubbed BAYC #4988, features a literal bored-looking ape with magenta fur. In addition, the Ape is wearing a biker-looking black leather cap and a black vest.

Before the purchase, rumors had already been swirling since January that Madonna was contemplating a BAYC purchase. In fact, at the time, BAYC holder Lindsey Byrnes made an interesting observation between Madonna and a similar-looking Bored Ape. Byrnes tweeted that the 63-year-old pop icon and the NFT ape were rocking similar outfits from Madonna’s “Justify my love” album cover.

Two weeks later, Madonna responded with “@LindseyByrnes I’m glad you saved it for me. Ape well chosen. Now what?”
