Manchester City Initiates Construction of the First-Ever Football Stadium in the Metaverse

Manchester

English Premier League football club Manchester City FC looks to become the first to have a football stadium in the metaverse. To successfully implement this trailblazing agenda, Manchester City is teaming up with Japanese consumer electronics giant Sony. The latter will reportedly provide virtual reality (VR) hardware infrastructure and advice.

Pursuant to the collaboration between City and Sony, the duo will create a virtual duplicate of the Etihad Stadium, which is City’s home ground. Like its real-life counterpart, the digital version of the Etihad will serve as City’s primary virtual headquarters. Although the project is still in its developmental stages, Sony’s specialist team has already taken necessary steps, including an ocular assessment of the Etihad Stadium. The assessment is to develop a digital map and also create a virtual replica.

Through its subsidiary, Hawk-Eye, Sony will use advanced image analysis and skeletal-tracking technology for this initiative.

The primary purpose of the virtual stadium is to provide a vicarious experience for Manchester City fans who may never visit the actual Etihad stadium. The team is now giving fans the chance to remotely experience the stadium.

Although City’s virtual project seems lofty in the eyes of many, the club believes that through this measure, it will get more engagement out of its fanbase.
