Popular English Premier League soccer club Manchester City FC has suspended its crypto partnership with 3Key Technologies, a digital currency firm whose existence is currently being questioned. Due to this, the five-time EPL champions decided to delay activating a deal with 3Key.
City first announced that it was going into partnership with 3Key about a week ago, on November 12th. Pursuant to the deal, the crypto company’s brand was supposed to feature on the soccer club’s digital assets as well as collaborate on other projects. However, it soon came to light that none of the four 3Key executives referenced in City’s statement had any online presence. Even the crypto firm’s chief marketing officer Ryan S. Hodder did not seem to appear on internet searches. This aroused suspicion, and columnist Nick Harris, who has written extensively on Manchester City affairs in the past, put out a Twitter statement saying:
“I’d like to get hold of Oliver Chen, Jacob Caine, James B Russel, Ryan S Hodder or Jason Liu please. Could you let me know how to contact any of them? Thanks.”
Manchester City’s latest move comes a day after Spanish soccer powerhouse FC Barcelona pulled the plug on its contract with Ownix, an NFT marketplace whose consultant, Moshe Hogeg was arrested on November 18th. Hogeg, an Israeli crypto power player, faces a slew of accusations including theft, and money laundering.
