Mark Zuckerberg Reveals Plan To Support NFTs on Instagram and Facebook

Zuckerberg

Mark Zuckerberg reveals Meta will begin testing support for NFTs on Instagram, with a Facebook rollout to follow. He announced that Meta will begin testing NFTs on Instagram this week. Shortly, Zuckerberg stated, Meta would introduce a Facebook feature with “similar functionality.” Meta joins a long list of prominent companies who have expressed interest in the NFT space.

The feature will allow collectors and makers to promote their preferred NFTs on their profiles and accounts, according to a post by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg on Monday. Both Facebook and Instagram users will benefit from the feature.

Meta also intends to use tools from its Spark AR Studio to provide augmented reality support for NFTs on Instagram Stories. While the company has confirmed the news, no specific release date has been set.

In March 2022, Zuckerberg teased the idea, saying that the business was looking towards the prospect of introducing support for digital collectibles. Furthermore, the billionaire founder mentioned that NFT mint support would be coming to Facebook shortly.

Meta was rumored to be working on adding support for Ethereum, Polygon, Solana, and Flow NFTs over the weekend. However, Zuckerberg did not specify which networks the initial rollout would take place. Meta could theoretically create its blockchain to support NFTs, but it would involve the development of infrastructure and a user base when the great majority of NFT collectors are now trading JPEGs on Ethereum and Solana.

From this week, some collectors and makers in the United States will be able to showcase their NFTs on Instagram.
