Ripple’s RLUSD Technology to Support Drought Relief Efforts in Kenya

Ripple has launched a new pilot program using its stablecoin, Ripple USD (RLUSD), to support drought relief in Kenya.

In partnership with Mercy Corps Ventures and DIVA Donate, the initiative uses blockchain and decentralized finance to deliver aid to pastoralist communities in Laikipia County.

RLUSD will be distributed through smart contracts on the Ethereum network, which trigger automatic payouts when satellite data confirms drought conditions.

If a drought is detected by May 31, 2025, each of the 533 participants will receive $75 in RLUSD to help care for their livestock. The program also invites public donations through connected wallets, with donors able to withdraw or reallocate funds after the campaign.

Ripple aims to showcase how blockchain technology can improve financial aid delivery, with results from the pilot expected later this summer.
