For the fourth time in the last 12 months, the Solana network has gone offline again, according to the Telegram Solana community group, WuBlockchain. According to the group, the downtime may be because of a DDoS attack. An official WuBlockchain tweet read:
“Solana went down again at two o’clock in the morning (UTC+8) on January 4th. According to the official Telegram community, the attacker is suspected of using spam to conduct a DDoS attack.”
According to users, the Solana protocol feels the brunt of a spam overload. This is likely a result of the constant creation of empty transactions on the network. The effect is a congestion buildup that has incapacitated the self-professed “Ethereum Killer.”
Solana’s functionality reportedly returned on January 4th. However, there is no further update on the network’s transaction processing capabilities. As of press time, there was no indication as to whether its developers were working on the aforementioned.
Solana’s latest downtime has sparked callbacks to the network’s previous outages, with one of the main issues being transaction processing. In fact, Raydium, one of Solana’s largest decentralized exchanges, also experienced issues with launching a liquidity pool – as a result of this.
Solana’s native token SOL is the fifth-largest digital currency by market cap, as well as one of 2021’s biggest gainers.
