Solana Suffers Mainnet Glitch as Engineers Scramble to Fix Issue

Solana has acknowledged a blockchain outage, resulting in the halt of block progression.

In an incident report, Solana stated, “Engineers from across the ecosystem are investigating an outage on Mainnet Beta.”

According to a post by the blockchain software company and Solana validator, Laine, “Solana mainnet-beta is experiencing a performance degradation, block progression is currently halted, and core engineers and validators are actively investigating.”

Solana later confirmed preparations for a new validator software release, which includes a patch to address the issue causing the halt. It advised, “Validator operators should prepare for an upgrade and restart of the network.”

This outage marks the first since February 2023, according to Solana’s status page. While still technically in beta, Solana encountered a series of outages in 2022 due to node issues, with a notable offline period of almost 18 hours in September 2021.

Solana, often lauded for its speed and efficiency as a potential competitor to Ethereum, encountered a notable setback as its mainnet experienced downtime. This occurrence has sparked concerns regarding the stability and security of blockchain networks.
