Telegram and Tether have teamed up to allow users to send USDT payments using The Open Network (TON) and Telegram wallet.
This was announced at Token2049 in Dubai, potentially expanding USDT’s adoption to Telegram’s 900 million users. Tether’s CEO, Paolo Ardoino, highlighted the collaboration’s alignment with TON’s vision for an open internet and global financial system.
Simultaneously, Tether is restructuring its divisions to focus on sustainability, data, finance, and education.
This move coincides with U.S. lawmakers’ efforts to regulate stablecoins, with Senators introducing the “Lummis-Gillibrand Payment Stablecoin Act of 2024.”
This legislation aims to regulate stablecoin reserves and usage, emphasizing consumer protection and innovation. As stablecoin regulations progress, it remains to be seen how they’ll influence Tether and Telegram’s expansion strategies.
