Telegram has officially launched a new self-custodial crypto wallet for users in the United States, facilitated by a partnership with payments infrastructure firm MoonPay.

This integration allows millions of U.S. Telegram users to manage cryptocurrencies directly within the app, leveraging The Open Platform (TOP) built on the TON blockchain. The wallet is designed for seamless use, activating automatically without a separate download.

This U.S. expansion builds on Telegram‘s global crypto wallet rollout, which has already seen over 100 million activations worldwide. The Open Platform recently secured $28.5 million in Series A funding, reaching a $1 billion valuation, indicating increasing interest in TON-based applications.

This renewed push into crypto by Telegram comes years after its legal battle with the U.S. SEC, which forced the company to abandon its original TON token project. With the new wallet, Telegram appears to be cautiously navigating regulations while deepening its engagement with the crypto ecosystem.
