It warns in a blog post that the third-party email, “The Sandbox Game (PURELAND) Access,” contained links to malware that might remotely install malware on a user’s computer, giving it access to and control over the device. The third party had access to only one employee’s PC via a malware application, and it was unable to access any other services or accounts at The Sandbox.
The security incident targeted the email addresses of Sandbox users. According to the Sandbox, as soon as the illegal behavior was found, it quickly notified the recipients of the scam email to disregard the email.
It also formatted the employee’s laptop, reset all associated passwords, required two-factor authentication, and restricted the employees’ access to The Sandbox and their accounts. At the time of writing, no new effects had been discovered.
As part of its ongoing endeavor to secure user information, The Sandbox urges users to utilize two-factor authentication and strong passwords to keep their accounts as secure as possible. Users should also not open any links in emails such as “The Sandbox Game (PURELAND) Access” or any other emails they suspect are bogus.
Users should be proactive in finding and getting rid of any malware that may be on their systems. In this case, speaking with an IT specialist or even reformatting the computer might be necessary.
