Trezor Probes Phishing Scam that Compromised 66k Users

Trezor, a hardware wallet company, faced a security breach where an unauthorized entity accessed its support ticket portal, exposing contact information for around 66,000 users.

The incident primarily impacted those who interacted with Trezor’s support team since late 2021. Trezor reassured users that no digital assets were compromised and is actively investigating with its third-party service provider.

The company proactively informed affected users through detailed emails, expressing a commitment to transparency. Trezor previously addressed a 2023 breach by Unciphered, who claimed to have hacked the Trezor T model.

Additionally, a 2022 incident involved a crypto investor losing 1.33 Bitcoin to a counterfeit Trezor wallet, prompting Trezor to remove compromised versions from Github.

Trezor is warning users to be cautious about potential phishing scams following a recent security incident.

Phishing involves deceptive tactics by malicious actors who impersonate trusted entities to obtain sensitive information such as login credentials and credit card details. Trezor emphasized the heightened risk of phishing attacks on the recovery seed of affected users due to the breach of contact details.

The financial impact of such phishing techniques is significant, with nearly $300 million being garnered by digital attackers through sophisticated scams targeting wallets in the past year.
