The Trump family’s involvement in crypto has sparked controversy after an unauthorized Trump-branded digital wallet launched earlier this week. World Liberty Financial (WLFI), a DeFi venture linked to Donald Trump, issued a cease-and-desist letter to the wallet’s creators, Fight Fight Fight LLC, who partnered with Magic Eden for the launch.
Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr. publicly disavowed the project on social media, stating it had no official affiliation with the Trump Organization. Following the backlash, the wallet’s website was taken offline, though promotional content remains active.
Confusion surrounds the situation, as the meme coin issuer GetTrumpMemes, involved in the project, has previously engaged with the Trump circle and claims affiliation on its website. The firm also holds 80% of Trump-themed NFT cards.
The incident raises concerns over the credibility of Trump-branded crypto projects amid increasing scrutiny over whether these ventures are legitimate or simply profit-driven. The Trump crypto brand now faces a key test of its authenticity and regulatory compliance.
