Vietnam has officially launched NDAChain, a permissioned Layer 1 blockchain aimed at bolstering the country’s digital infrastructure.
Announced on July 25, NDAChain is operated by the Data Innovation and Exploitation Center under the Ministry of Public Security and developed by the National Data Association. It is directly connected to Vietnam’s National Data Center and designed to serve as a verification layer for both government and enterprise systems.
NDAChain utilizes a Proof-of-Authority (PoA) consensus mechanism, supported by 49 validator nodes from a mix of public and private entities.
Enhanced with zero-knowledge proof (ZKP) technology, it boasts a throughput of up to 3,600 transactions per second. Nguyen Huy, Head of Technology at the National Data Association, described it as a hybrid system protecting national data critical to Vietnam’s digital economy.
The platform currently powers NDA DID, a decentralized identity solution, and NDATrace, a product traceability system using unique digital identifiers for authentication and international tracking. Both services are compatible with Vietnam’s national ID systems and global standards. The government plans to expand NDAChain across provincial agencies and academic institutions by the end of 2025, with plans for Layer 2 support and cross-border collaboration.
With this launch, Vietnam joins a growing list of countries, including China, the EU, and South Korea, that are developing blockchain-based public infrastructure to secure digital identities, enhance supply chain transparency, and improve data interoperability.
