Warner Bros Set to Produce Millions of DC Comics Trading Cards with Redeemable NFTs

Trading

Warner Bros is set to launch 6 million DC Comics-inspired physical trading cards later this month. Each trading card will come packaged with redeemable non-fungible tokens (NFTs) minted by Ethereum sidechain Immutable X.

Speaking on the initiative, president of global brands and experiences for Warner Bros, Pam Lifford, said in a statement:

“Trading cards have been a favorite of fans for decades. Combining that enthusiasm for collecting with a custom NFT is just brilliant.”

The trading cards will be designed by a card and board company called Cartamundi and will feature 155 different superheroes. In addition, Warner Bros also plans to issue a few limited-edition cards inspired by content from the latest DC Comics movie, “The Batman.”

Pricing for the hybrid cards will start at $5, all the way up to $120. Furthermore, buyers will have to first download a mobile app called Hro to redeem their NFT components. Buyers will also be able to buy, sell or trade other NFTs from the collection using the same Hero platform.

Warner Bros trading card/NFT initiative follows on the heels of Warner Music Group announcing a partnership with Splinterlands. The latter is a play-to-earn NFT game, and pursuant to the deal, musical artists will have better access to NFT marketplaces.
