Cross-platform centralized instant messaging service WhatsApp launched a new crypto-focused pilot program in the United States. According to reports, WhatsApp is test-running a crypto payment service supported by Novi and stablecoin Pax Dollar (USDP). The feature facilitates sending and receiving money with the Novi wallet directly from WhatsApp. Novi’s vice president of product Stephane Kasriel weighed in on the development saying:
“Since we introduced the Novi pilot just six weeks ago, we’ve been able to test and learn which features and functionality are most important to people, and focus our efforts on making those even better.”
In addition, Kasriel also added that this crypto pilot program is only available to a limited number of people in the US. Users will be able to access the feature from within their WhatsApp chat screens, where they can also select the desired amount to send. Furthermore, a section of the feature will also show the recipient’s details – including name and receiving amount. Novi will then allow for the connection of debit cards to conclude the transaction process.
Kasriel says that the end goal of this development is to channel the power of WhatsApp with crypto. This is so as to leverage the two to send funds and make it as seamless as sending a regular ordinary WhatsApp message. Kasriel also stated that Novi is working to make the service free.
