Coinbase Wallet Now Allows Transfer of Crypto via Social Media Apps

Coinbase Wallet, a Web3 wallet, has added a new feature that allows users to send crypto via text messages on social media apps like WhatsApp and Telegram.

Users can share a link within these apps to send money globally for free, mainly using USDC, a stablecoin. Recipients need to have a Coinbase Wallet app to claim the funds, or the funds will return to the sender after two weeks.

The new feature will enable users to send money across the world via a share link, with instant transactions available on popular social media platforms such as WhatsApp, Telegram and iMessage.

The feature also works with the wallet’s integration with Facebook, Snapchat, TikTok and Instagram. Users can also send money through email on Coinbase Wallet, the company said, with transactions involving the USDC stablecoin at zero Coinbase fees.

Coinbase Wallet also introduced a “simple mode” that focuses on core functions like sending and receiving money. Users do not need to have a full Coinbase account or KYC to use the wallet.

Coinbase’s stock (COIN) has performed well in 2023, rising over 300% year-to-date to a multi-year high of $140.
