Dogecoin Community Alerted to Major iOS Security Flaw

Prominent members of the Dogecoin community are issuing an urgent call to action for Apple iOS users: update your software immediately. This advisory follows the discovery of a significant security vulnerability by Citizen Lab, a cybersecurity research organization.

The vulnerability, known as BLASTPASS, can enable attackers to compromise iOS devices without any user interaction. BLASTPASS involves the delivery of malicious PassKit attachments via iMessage and can impact iPhones running the latest iOS version 16.6. In response to this threat, Apple has released a software update to address the issue.

Citizen Lab stumbled upon the BLASTPASS exploit chain while investigating the device of an individual linked to a civil society organization in Washington, D.C.

This exploit permits attackers to deliver the NSO Group’s Pegasus spyware to a victim’s device without requiring any clicks or actions from the user.

Given the severity of this vulnerability, both Apple and Citizen Lab are urging users to activate lockdown mode, a security feature believed to effectively block this specific attack.

The implications of this discovery extend beyond Dogecoin users, affecting the broader iOS community. Cryptocurrency holders are frequent targets due to their digital assets, underscoring the critical need for prompt patching of such vulnerabilities.

Patrick Lodder, a member of the cryptocurrency community, emphasized the importance of lockdown mode on social media, stating, “Lockdown mode…the only mode.”
