In a recent announcement, the government of Maharashtra disclosed that it was entering a partnership with LegitDoc, an Indian blockchain startup. The integration is to enable an Ethereum credentialing system that will provide tamper-proof diploma certificates.
Neil Martis, LegitDoc’s CEO, said:
“We have an active work order from the Government of Karnataka (Department of Information Technology and Biotechnology). We are in talks with the Government of Telangana (school education department) and the Higher & Technical education department of Maharashtra to implement LegitDoc for their student community.”
He also mentioned that the Maharashtra State Board of Skill Development (MSBSD) would employ only digital verification techniques for verification requests from next year as it is currently verifying certificates using manual methods. The MSBSD opposed India’s ban on crypto by using Ethereum-based public blockchains to contradict the increase in document fabrication.
While addressing blockchain’s ability to reduce document forgery, the chairman of MSBSD, Anil Jadhao, revealed that there had been an unrestrained increase in falsified government-issued documents over the last ten years. He explained that the situation has led to a massive loss of reputation and funds to stakeholders.
Alongside Singapore, Malta, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, India is also part of the early endorsers of the e-governance educational system.
