UK FCA Approves Bitcoin and Ethereum ETPs

Bitcoin ETF | Bitcoin | SEC | SEC Commissioner

The UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has approved asset manager WisdomTree to list Bitcoin and Ethereum Exchange Traded Products (ETPs) on the London Stock Exchange (LSE).

Trading for these ETPs will begin on May 28, but they will only be available to professional investors and will carry fees of 35 basis points.

This approval signifies the growing acceptance of digital assets, similar to recent developments in Hong Kong and anticipated listings in Australia.

WisdomTree, managing over $111 billion globally, has a history of offering crypto products and received approval for a spot Bitcoin ETF in the U.S. earlier this year.

The FCA’s approval, reversing its previous ban on crypto derivatives, aligns the UK with broader European and U.S. trends, though retail investors remain restricted. The LSE will accept applications for Bitcoin and Ethereum products in the second quarter.
