Warner Music Group Partners with Blockchain Gaming Developer Splinterlands to Develop Play-to-Earn Blockchain Games

Blockchain

Warner Music Group (WMG) has announced a partnership with leading blockchain-based game developer Splinterlands. Pursuant to the deal, which marks Splinterlands’ first major music partnership, select WMG artists will be able to create and develop unique blockchain games.

Speaking on the development, WMG’s Chief Digital Officer & EVP, Business Development, Oana Ruxandra said:

“I don’t think we can underestimate how massive the opportunity around play-to-earn gaming is. By partnering with Splinterlands to build custom tokenized games, we’ll unlock new revenue streams for our artists who have an interest in the space while elevating the role of fandom and community.”

WMG has become one of the newest major players in the music industry to leverage the power of the emerging metaverse. In collaboration with Splinterlands, the music recording giant seeks to use crypto – and by extension NFTs, and DeFi to attract a larger audience base.

Splinterlands, a popular play-to-earn blockchain card game, has a huge user base of 1.8 million, and 450,000 daily users. The platform, which was first launched on the hive blockchain, allows players to own in-game assets in the form of NFTs. Furthermore, players are also able to earn SPS and HIVE token rewards by playing the game and participating in the Splinterlands community.

Blockchain data platform DappRadar says that Splinterlands was the second-most-played blockchain game over the last 30 days.
